This small island has so much to offer they are famous for their beaches, tropical forests and historic landmarks.  Even though Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States you get the feeling of being in a different country because of their strong Spanish influence. If anyone is looking for an easy quick getaway this is the place for you!

Less than a week before MDW Pedro surprised me with a 3 day trip to Puerto Rico. I was extremely excited because I was already regretting the fact that I didn't plan anything fun for the long weekend. I've visited Puerto Rico many times before but each time has been a different experience (all good ones of course!). I haven't been back since the hurricane so I was a little skeptical about what to expect. I called the hotel and they assured me everything was back to normal. Phew!

We stayed at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort. This was one of the few hotels that had availability, that's what happens when you plan things last minute. It was our first time staying at a Wyndham Resort and its definitely not our last. The service was incredible from the bellboy to the concierge to the serves at the pool/ beach area, everyone was truly amazing. It certainly made up for the outdated decorations. Our room was very spacious and comfortable it overlooked a sea of palm trees by the pool and the ocean. A view we enjoyed from our balcony while sipping on a fresh cup of delicious Puerto Rican coffee every morning.

This resort had many activities: spa, golf, casino, tennis, water sports, restaurants, bars, a Margaritaville you name it! We rented a private cabana in a quiet place by the pool and beach and relaxed there THE ENTIRE TIME it was perfect and exactly what we were looking to do.

We had a night out in Old San Juan which was about a 40 minute uber ride from the hotel. While walking around we stumbled upon El Patio de Sam, a local restaurant on San Sebastian street and enjoyed a delicious Puerto Rican meal. We had some serious itis but we danced it off at La Factoria a rustic hole in the wall speakeasy located a block away from the restaurant. This was the second time I went to La Factoria and its always a great time. The place is made up of different rooms that are all connected but each with its own vibe, music and specialty drinks. We drank lavendar moscow mules (Yum!) and danced in the salsa room before heading back to the hotel. If you have a San Juan trip planned in the near future do yourself a favor a stop at La Factoria.
